Do i even need to install it, or can i edit word documents using Pages?

Yes you can now run windows applications on Mac OSX, but you need to have an Intel based Mac and the ''Boot Camp'' Software (boot camp lets you run a Windows OS on a mac at the same time as running Mac OSX on partitions of the same hard drive) this is all relatively new to the mac line. In my opinion though, it would be better just to buy the Microsoft Works Suite for the Mac OS and don't bother with a Windows OS at all. Once you start to use the mac you won't want to go back to windows at all. Now and days most major software is made in a Mac OSX version also.

There is a Mac version of Works.
There is a Microsoft Office application for Macs that will read PC files. Also, the new Macs with the Intel processor will run Windows programs. You have to have a copy of Windows installed since the new Macs can run both systems
