Microsoft Office is freezing after I install Critical Windows Updates. Any help?

Everytime i install Windows updates, office (word, powerpoint, etc) freezes. it'll open properly and then completely freeze when i try to insert pictures from a file. when i restore my computer to when i knew it last worked, it works fine, but the updates aren't there and it consistently trys to update. does anyone else have this problem? does microsoft just hate me???

Is your PC an HP/Compaq by any chance? If so there have been some Microsoft updates which weren't compatible.
