You really need to try them. Some people prefer Windows, and some people prefer Mac. There isn't much difference in what you can do. Windows applications tend to be more complicated, while Mac applications tend to be more simple. You can still accomplish the same things with either OS.

There are many myths out there about this battle. Don't believe any of it. Go and try the computers and see which one you like. Both systems are adequate for most home users, and both systems run on computers, which means they will both be prone to "computer problems". If you are an average home user, the Mac will probably be easier to learn and have fewer problems.
